About Rich

Born and educated in Newark, New Jersey, Rich Mastrangelo's career began as a street cop in Livingston before going to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office where he was responsible for initiating and coordinating investigations of child abusers and sexual assault offenders; one which was a "Nationally Publicized" investigation and conviction. Also during his tenure with the ECPO, he engaged in drug enforcement raids in some of Essex County's worse neighborhoods.

Rich joined the State of New Jersey Attorney General’s Office where he was assigned to investigate allegations of physical and sexual abuse on children, the institutionally abused in day care, hospital , correctional and school facilities. Later in his career, the Essex County Sheriff ’s Office utilized Rich Mastrangelo’s experience to further fight crime and to protect the citizens of Essex County. Rich then joined the Passiac Police Department where he is currently assigned to the Internal Affairs Division. He also served under Sheriff Jerry Speziale of the Passiac County Sheriff's Department in its Internal Affairs Division and was involved in Special Investigations which led to arrest and convictions of high ranking Bloods gang members under the racketeering codes. (RICO) .

A career crime fighter, after graduating from Montclair State University, Rich attended numerous police academies including , The Essex County Police Academy, the N.J. State Police Academy, the Passaic County Police Academy, the N.Y.P.D. Internal Affairs Academy and the National Intelligence Academy for wire tap and electronic countermeasures. Rich furthered his law enforcement knowledge in special interrogation and interview programs at the Universitiy of Michigan and the University of Delaware. Rich recently received his certification in accident reconstruction from Northwestern University.

Rich Mastrangelo is certified in Wire Telephone Wire Tap and Counter Measures, Video Surveillance (overt and covert) and Securities Technician (build and defeat).

A father of three and happily married to his wife Judy ,during the course of his career, Rich has received numerous Awards and Citations including the Essex County PBA Award, Outstanding Meritorious Service awards, the Valor Award for bravery during a commission of a crime and many letters of commendation for a job well done.
